]]>Wood wall paneling has made a strong comeback in recent years, and it's easy to see why. It offers warmth, character, and versatility to any space, making it a popular choice for homeowners and designers alike. But the question remains: is wood wall paneling easy to install? In this blog article, we will discuss the process, the tools required, and the skills needed to successfully install wood wall paneling.
The first step in installing wood wall paneling is choosing the right type for your space. There are a variety of options available, from traditional solid wood planks to engineered wood panels, and even reclaimed wood options. It's essential to research and decide on the type of wood, the finish, and the thickness that best suits your needs and style.
Before diving into the installation process, gather all the necessary tools and materials. Some common items you'll need include:
Properly preparing the wall surface is crucial for a successful wood paneling installation. Make sure the wall is clean, dry, and free from any debris. You'll also need to remove any existing baseboards, crown molding, or outlet covers to ensure a smooth installation process.
To securely attach the wood paneling to the wall, you'll need to locate and mark the wall studs. Use a stud finder to identify their location and mark them with a pencil. Doing this will help you know where to nail or screw the paneling for a secure installation.
Before attaching the panels to the wall, measure and cut them to the appropriate size. Use a measuring tape to determine the length and width needed for each panel, and then use a circular saw or miter saw to make precise cuts. Keep in mind that it's essential to measure twice and cut once to avoid costly mistakes.
Once the panels are cut to size, it's time to install them. Start in a corner and work your way across the wall, using a level to ensure that each panel is straight and level. Apply construction adhesive to the back of each panel and secure them to the wall using nails or wood screws, making sure to drive them into the studs. For a seamless appearance, stagger the panel seams, so they don't line up.
After all the panels are installed, you may need to fill any nail or screw holes with wood filler and sand the surface to create a smooth finish. If desired, you can paint or stain the panels to achieve your desired aesthetic.
Conclusion
So, is wood wall paneling easy to install? While it does require some skill, patience, and the right tools, it's a project that many DIY enthusiasts can tackle with confidence. By following these steps and taking the time to prepare and measure accurately, you can transform your space with beautiful wood wall paneling that adds warmth and character to any room.

Durability
White oak is known for its durability, making it an excellent choice for high-traffic areas of your home. It's a dense hardwood that resists wear and tear and is also resistant to moisture and rot. This makes it an ideal flooring material, but it's also an excellent choice for walls. Reclaimed white oak has already stood the test of time, and with proper care, it will continue to look great for decades to come.
Unique Character
One of the biggest draws of using reclaimed white oak in your luxury wall design is the unique character it brings to the space. Unlike newly milled wood, reclaimed wood has a history and a story to tell. Each board has unique knots, saw marks, and patina, making your wall design one of a kind. In addition, the natural variation in the wood's color and grain adds depth and texture to the space, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.
Sustainability
Using reclaimed white oak in your luxury wall design is also an eco-friendly choice. By repurposing wood that would otherwise go to waste, you're reducing the demand for newly harvested wood, which can be harmful to the environment. Additionally, reclaimed wood requires less energy than harvesting and processing new lumber, making it a more sustainable choice.
Versatility
Reclaimed white oak is incredibly versatile, allowing you to create a variety of different looks depending on your design preferences. For a more rustic look, you can leave the saw marks and nail holes in the wood, highlighting its history. Alternatively, you can have the wood planed and sanded for a smoother, more polished look. Reclaimed white oak can also be stained or painted to match your desired color scheme, making it a highly customizable material.
In conclusion, using reclaimed white oak in your luxury wall design offers a variety of benefits. It's durable, unique, sustainable, and versatile, making it an excellent choice for any high-end home design project. With its classic look and natural warmth, reclaimed white oak is a timeless choice that will add character and style to your space for years to come.

Reclaimed wood started off as an aesthetic trend to easily add rustic beauty to any room. In the last decade it has blossomed into a major industry as homeowners seek to be more sustainable. In order to help you understand this growing trend of sustainability, we have put together a nifty guide to highlight the benefits of using reclaimed wood.
Reclaimed Pine Project Planks Walling
What is reclaimed wood?
Reclaimed wood is building material that has been salvaged from older structures and turned into new walling. This gives the wood a second life and prevents it from rotting away in landfills. Reclaimed wood is highly versatile and overflowing with history. Since it does not come from newly cut trees, it has much less of an environmental impact than using new wood or other building material. Reclaimed wood is also much more durable as it comes from old growth trees instead of the first gen forest where modern wood comes from.
How is reclaimed wood readied for use?
Reclaimed wood is typically salvaged from old barns and other abandoned structures built prior to the 1930s. It is then transformed in a multi-step restoration process. It is given a deep surface cleaning with a high pressure washer to remove any dirt or debris. This ensures a uniform finish and surface texture for the final product. The wood is then rough milled and kiln dried to ensure a uniformity of thickness and durability.
Reclaimed End Grain White Oak Walling
What makes reclaimed wood sustainable?
While the process of dismantling abandoned buildings to reclaim the wood is far more complex than simply demolishing them, the total financial and environmental cost of disposing of demolition debris is significant. Reclaimed wood is also far more sustainable than newly cut hardwood because it comes from trees that were cut down more than 100 years ago. Any impact their cutting had on the environment has long ago been diminished.
By taking existing wood and giving it a new life, you are lessening the impact that the original harvesting had even more. The wood is reused without requiring new trees to be cut. A reclaimed wood floor will still last just as long as a new cut wood floor. This makes the reclaimed wood products far more sustainable than anything else that’s currently on the market.
Conclusion
80% of the Earth’s forest has already been destroyed, half of which has happened in the last 30 years. These forests are home to more than half of all wildlife and millions of people depend on them for survival. Doing your part to lessen the environmental impact is extremely important. The good news is it's even easier than you think. By using reclaimed wood in your next project you are helping to stem the destruction while adding beauty and history to your home.

]]>With Earth Day happening this week, we figured it would be a good time to talk about all of the ways that we are committed to a more sustainable future. It has always been a part of our business and one that we take pride in growing, each and every year.
Early in our life as a direct-to-consumer flooring business, we reached out and established a partnership with American Forests for the Global Releaf forest restoration project. Through this partnership, we have vowed and maintained to plant two trees for every one used to create our quality flooring.
We have currently been responsible for planting over 200,000 trees since 2012 with more being planted every year! This program is very important to us and we’re excited to expand upon it with our current sale that will double the amount planted through the month of April.
If you would like to read more about our partnership, then click here to go to our previous article about it. However, when it comes to helping Mother Earth, we do more than plant trees.
We're always on the hunt for new sustainable materials and products. Check out two of our recent favorites.
We now offer Hevea wood flooring. Hevea comes from Hevea Brasiliensis trees which are used in the natural rubber making process in south-east Asia. While offering a better alternative than petroleum-based rubbers, these trees were often cut down and burned when they could no longer produce enough natural rubber to be maintained. However, now, thanks to business like ours, they are instead being used as a beautiful and sustainable source of hardwood flooring and furniture, while also being an affordable alternative.
That’s not the only newly sustainable hardwood we have to offer though! We've launched an exquisite new wood wall paneling line made from Empress wood. Empress wood is a fast-growing and very sustainable source of light-weight hardwood that is perfect for walling. It also takes a stain incredibly well which makes it an even greater choice for creative-minded people.
These are just the first two varieties of alternative and sustainable wood that we have sourced and we plant to bring many more in the coming years.
While we do everything to ensure that our hardwood flooring leaves a greener path behind it, we also do what we can to provide flooring that uses other means of sustainable construction.
That’s why we launched our inhouse brand of Stone-core flooring, and have added many more options this year, with more new styles arriving as we speak. This construction uses much less wood than traditional solid hardwood flooring, while still offering the same beautiful aesthetic of hardwood with a more robust and tougher design.
Not only does this wood look great, but it is the toughest flooring on the market. They are water-proof and scratch and dent resistant which means, among other things, that you won’t have to worry about replacing it for a very long time. These floors are better for the environment and better for customers like you. It’s truly a win-win.
This is the commitment that you can expect from us when it comes to doing our part to ensure a greener future. Stay with us as we plan to announce more initiatives and innovations as they become ready. Thank you for taking the time to read and for caring as much as we do.
]]>We invited Marsha Grey, an up and coming interior designer, to our Austin office to take a look at our new 3D Diamond White Oak Walling and ask her some questions along the way.
I love it! The bespoke texture to it really resonates with my style and tastes as a designer. The square 4x4 pattern comes together to form a unique and inspired wall.
I'm super excited to get to work with it in the future!
Well, obviously it’s quite a different take from a design standpoint. So that’s going to be the first thing I noticed. But, honestly, watching the installers put up the wall I was shocked by how easy it went up. Once they got the first row up and leveled they just zipped along. Just nail and go.
And it came out looking great! Really impressive stuff.
In a dining room or bedroom is my first gut reaction. Framing a table or a bed I think would look great with this. With that in mind really any room could be made to work, like behind a TV or above a mantle. I’d probably skip a bathroom since it’s on the bulkier side, but you could make it work if you had your heart set on it.
Ohh I love wood walling. It’s a great way to introduce a retro look in a modern way if that makes sense. I’m a big fan of bringing different textures, colors, and elements together in a room and think that the blending of these elements is where we get some really creative and fun looks.
For instance, I love adorning a key wall in a living room then putting a couple framed pictures over it and layering some plants in front of it. It looks great and is a perfect place to jump off for staging a favorite chair, record player, tv, really anything you want to show off.
Very often! It’s not always right for the space or doesn’t mesh with the client's vision, but it has definitely become a go-to for a large selection of my projects. I like to sketch up the design for a room when showing a client and they often get a look in the eye when I talk about wood walling - like it’s too retro - but, they are usually blown away by the final results.
I think the trick is to not overdo it and let the space dictate the design. I’m sure that sounds hipstery or whatever, but you really can’t force it. I’ve definitely found that I have to experiment, but so far have been very happy with the results.
Thanks for inviting me! I’m just super stoked to play around with this new design out in the wild. I’ve already got a couple of fun ideas for some clients I’m working with. So you’ll have to check back with me in a month or 2 for some nice results.

For some, this is a no-brainer. However, this is a must for anyone with wood, tile, or laminate flooring and can even be put to good use on carpeted floors. Rugs have a number of benefits including noise reduction, added warmth, comfort, and style. So go out and find one that matches your room’s style and plant your feet on this cozy comfort.
We’ve all been to houses that have unsightly, giant blankets hanging half off of the couch, but I urge you to not abandon the idea of a good throw. Having a blanket at hand when you feel cold is an amazing option, not just for you, but for your guests as well and when done right, it can even add some style and class to your room.
So don’t settle for the biggest, ugliest blanket you can find, but instead find one that pairs well with the couch or chair you want to put it on. Not only will you now have the comfort of a warm blanket at arm’s length, but you also have a nice accessory that makes the room more inviting!
We might be past the days of building pillow forts in the living room, but that doesn’t mean we don’t like a good pillow to snuggle up to when watching a movie or our favorite TV show. These often overlooked pillows add so much more than style. They add warmth and back and leg support, all while adding an inviting appeal to your guests. They also make for the perfect popcorn lap table and shield to hide behind during scary movies.
As for style, find some that accent your chairs and couches. If you have solid, bold colors then get white or grey pillows with or without a design and vice versa for lighter couches. Have fun with them and pick up some pillows that meet both form and function for your living room.
I know by this point in the article it will come as no surprise, but curtains can serve more function than just aesthetic. Windows are where your house loses the majority of its heat and a good, heavy, curtain will help you keep the warm air in while keeping the cold air out.
You want to find curtains that have a heavy and solid fabric. Plus, like everything else, you shouldn’t have a problem finding something that matches your style and makes the room more enjoyable to be in. Also, as a bonus, they also work in the summer for keeping the sun out and air condition in.
I bring up plants a lot in these style articles and for good reason. Plants are so often overlooked when designing a room and they do an excellent job in adding life and beauty to an otherwise still room. However, they also do a lot when it comes to making a room cozier by adding a touch of vibrant nature to remind you of warmer times. Just don’t go overboard and turn your living room into a greenhouse.
Okay, maybe this one isn’t a style tip, but nothing makes you feel more comfortable than a nice warm cup of hot chocolate or a fine flavored coffee. This is also perfect to offer houseguests still reeling from the outside cold. Really it’s just hosting 101, but don’t forget to pamper yourself from time to time as well.
Everything on this list is an important tool for creating a warm and friendly atmosphere that, when done right, will add some style and character to your living room. As always, use what works for you as no two rooms are ever really the same.

]]>I can’t believe it, but we’re already in 2019! Just think about it, that’s the future… However, maybe your home is still stuck in the past. Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered with 5 amazing tips to help you update to the 21st century. After all, New Year, new home right?
A theme is a great place to start when it comes to a remodel, big or small. It will help guide your decision process and keep you on track when you start to feel overwhelmed or lost. Your theme could be anything from a color palette you enjoy to an artistic style of expression or even just a pattern you really like. What’s really important is that once you make up your mind on a theme, every choice you make after that should fit back into the theme.
When a theme comes together it should be subtle, but unavoidable. You know you’ve done a great job when your guest can’t even tell you planned it all, but complement your great taste.
Building on the last point of a theme, artwork is a great way to dynamically shift the feel of a room. Artwork can support your theme or even be the theme if you have a strong enough piece. This is especially great for any room with a large wall that you might have been neglecting or under using. So take some time to find a painting, photo, or even a sculpture that you absolutely love and then think about how you wish to display it.
Bonus points if it really stands out in a positive way. This can be tricky without it clashing, but a bright spot in an otherwise white or low key room adds an amazing touch of sophistication.
Also, when hanging the art, think about the wall behind it as well. It will start to draw more attention just by its association. This is where your theme and color pallet comes back into play. And don’t be afraid to think outside the box on this and try different ideas like wall paneling made from real wood.
Go green in every sense! I have been championing the use of plants on this blog for a long time now and it is one of the most underused techniques I continue to see. A plant adds so much life and character to a room that it’s hard to imagine a properly designed space without any. In my opinion, this is as important, if not more, than artwork and you should be considering what plants you have/want when coming up with your theme.
However, plants aren’t the only green that I mean. You should also look for recycled and reusable materials when decorating. They are very stylish these days and a great conversation starter. Plus, it's always nice to feel like you have contributed to a better environment, even if it’s in a small way.

As I’m writing these it seems like each tip is more important than the last. You wouldn’t believe the amount of well-designed rooms I have seen ruined by bad lighting! A few simple touches can brighten up any gloomy area and bring new life to your home.
Properly lighting a room is a skill you have to learn, but one that is very much worth learning. Without proper lighting, all of your effort in designing your perfect room is wasted. It's a great way to improve any space.
Unfortunately, I don’t have space in this article to teach you everything you need to know… Thankfully, there is a great intro article on lighting that should help get you started and teach you the basics. Read it here.
For my final tip, I have chosen that of minimalism. Again, this is one that I find myself recommending more and more and it’s really starting to catch on. The age of the overstuffed couches has come to an end. Throw out those lazy boys and get rid of the clutter! You’re be amazed how much better your house feels with less stuff in it.
Now I have simplified this, but the truth is that it’s a lot harder than it sounds. However, like most points in this article, it requires some honest self-reflection and thought on what you really want in your home. I have no doubts that you can pull it off!

]]>Well, to begin with, I need to get an idea of what the clients are looking for and the kind of space they want me to create. So, naturally, this starts with talking to the owners about what they want. However, it’s not just straightforward questions. I like to get a feel for their hobbies and tastes, favorite movies, books, and foods. That sort of thing.
Then I’ll tour the space and walk the grounds, sometimes with the clients and sometimes alone and just see what sort of comes to me. Usually, this produces a strong image in my mind and I am able to make something unique for the clients.
Anything textured. The 3D textured walls are by far my favorite and the clients love them. They add such a fun atmosphere to such otherwise normal rooms. They really let you play with the aesthetic in such a fun way.
They’ve added a new dynamic, definitely. The wood acts as a living object you can reach out and touch. A part of nature with character all to its own not made to simply be covered like wallpaper.
Definitely seeing my clients impressed by the final results. As designers, we live for that moment, where our clients see our creations for the first time. It’s easily the best part.
Let me give you a quick rundown of the lighting styles that professional interior decorators have been using for years.
There are three key styles, that when used in tandem, can make any room stand out in ways you’ve never seen before. Ambient, task, and accent lighting are a must, and knowing how to layer them is key to a well lit room.
Ambient lighting is the most important, and likely the one that you are already using in every room of your home. It is the large overhead light in the center of the room. It can take on different forms, such as ceiling or wall-mounted fixtures, chandeliers, ceiling fans, or even the lights from your Christmas tree or candles.
However, just because it is already present in a room doesn’t mean that it’s doing its job correctly. Because it is so important in function, it is important to ensure that it fits the room. After all, this is the foundation that all the other lights build upon.
You want to make sure that the lighting is a comfortable level of brightness for the room. Now, this will change based on the room. You want your kitchen to be a lot brighter than you would your bedrooms or living room (depending on the style and goal of each room). As a quick guide, avoid large shadows (especially in corners) and make sure that your lighting is not so bright that it creates glare on your surfaces.
Pro Tip: For recessed or track lighting, consider the size of the fixture to determine the appropriate distance to space them apart. A good rule of thumb is one foot apart per 1 inch of the fixture. IE: four-inch fixtures should be placed four feet apart.
Task lighting is what it sounds like, lighting designed for a specific task. This could be anything from reading, to cooking, to putting on makeup. The idea here is to blend the high function of specific lighting into the elements of a given room. When it’s done right, task lighting won’t jump out at you, but will show off the desired use behind each room.
This can be achieved with track lighting, lamps, pendant lighting, or small fixtures embedded into cabinets- It really just depends on what the room needs. So for instance, in a kitchen, it’s great to have small unseen lights underneath your cabinets to light up your countertops for better sight when preparing food. Another example is having a small spotlight, or track lighting, on the counter in a bathroom to give you extra light when applying makeup. The goal is to install your fixtures in a way that complements the room.
Task lighting is all about function, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun with it! When done right, it looks great.
Pro tip: Under cabinet lighting is an amazing way to open up your kitchen space, making it safer and more interesting aesthetically. Some good examples of lights to use include LED, puck lights, linear lights and tape lights.
Accent lighting is the third leg that your room’s lighting stands on. It adds the drama or the punctuation to your room. You can use accent lighting to highlight points of interest and draw attention.
Accent lighting can be used to highlight anything, from sculptures to houseplants. It can even be used to highlight your wall’s unique texture or the furniture in the room. It’s all about showing off what is interesting or unique about a certain room.
A good rule of thumb is that the accent lighting should be at least three times as bright as the lights surrounding it. Recessed and track lighting are the two most common examples of this, but wall mounted picture lights and pendant lights work as well.
Pro tip: Accent lighting is by far the most versatile, and one you really need to plan when trying for a certain result. Play around with lighting from above with a pendant light that matches the room’s design, or even light a sculpture from the base up and embellish the bold shadow that it casts on the wall.
I hope this has all been informative and illuminated (ha!) the importance of an often overlooked element of interior design. Remember, these are all suggestions and you shouldn’t be afraid to think outside the box and play around with these ideas to achieve your desired look. If it looks good, then it probably is.

Planning is the first tip because of how important it is. The sooner you can start knocking items off of your to-do list the better you'll feel and the more you'll actually enjoy the party.
Pre-prepare some of the food, make sure you have enough drinks and ice, and think about seating arrangements. No one wants to be awkwardly stuck in a corner any more than they want to watch you frantically rearrange the dining room. It's also good to think about cleanup, sometimes it's worth breaking out paper plates and plastic ware.
In other words, delegate. This is a big lesson for people to learn. There is no shame in asking for help and a lot of time people actually like giving you a hand. It makes them feel valuable. Not to mention, that this party is for you too. You should have time to spend with the guests instead of just cleaning and preparing drinks the whole time.
Nothing will ever be perfect so throw that idea right out the window. Let's face it, things are going to go wrong. Sometimes, horribly so! But that's okay. No one will judge you for it and the sooner you accept imperfection the sooner you can start enjoying the party. Plus, your guest will actually have a better time if you can pull off a care-free attitude.
There is no need to overdo it by getting too fancy. All your party needs is three things: Food, drinks, and conversation. That's it. So throw out that expanded tasting menu of your favorite Chilean wines and forget that 3rd type of smoked Gruyere. As long as you cover the basics then no one will spend time thinking about what you didn't provide.
Put your own twist on the party. This is your chance as a host to show off your own tastes and style. Showcase a food you like or a favorite wine. Make a playlist of your favoite tunes. You might even be shocked at how much others like your tastes.
This is the most important to me and it took me a long time to learn and perfect. Slow down, calm down, and focus on being stress-free. In fact, you might have noticed this trend in my earlier tips. When executed, they should all help serve this goal so that you can relax and actually enjoy the party you're throwing.
I hope these help and that your party turns out great. Thanks for reading and drop a comment at the bottom.
]]>A warm ray of sunshine can brighten your day (pun intended) immensely and natural lighting can be a huge bonus to any room's mood. First things first, add some nice looking curtains that can be easily opened and closed when the light is best used. You should also consider re-arranging the room to best use the natural lighting available. I personally love a good reading chair next to a large window. It's a wonderful experience on a weekend morning with a good cup of coffee.
Finally, you may even want to go as far as re-painting your room to a more subdued color that will bounce the light rather than trap it.
Now obviously, if your room doesn't allow any natural light than there isn't a whole lot you can do save from a massive remodeling job. However, read the link below to find some tips on adding lighting to that pesky dark room of yours.
One Great Tip For Lighting Up Any Dark Room
I shouldn't have to tell you how bad a cluttered house is for your peace of mind. Keep your space clean and that means organized. An organized room is no small feat, but it can be made easier if you maximize your storage space and make sure that you assign everything to a specific place.
This should ensure that you can easily pick up and store everything at the end of the day by putting it all back in its specific place. You'll be shocked how much better every room feels when it's clean and organized.
I won't try to explain the art of Feng Shui in the span of a few sentences, but a good open and airy flow is very important to a room. It's hard to feel at peace when you are constantly bumping into chairs or having to walk around coffee tables.
There is no golden rule to this, but you want to make sure that you have open pathways and ease of access to every piece of furniture in the room. I can't tell you how often I have visited with friends where I have to carefully sidestep past the coffee table just to awkwardly sit on the couch. Do what is right for your room and that may even require the tough decision of getting rid of your bulky or extra furniture.
I hope these three simple, but effective tips will help you find some peace of mind in your home.
Just because a space is open, doesn't mean that it all has the same use. I recommend using different and competing colors to define one area from the next. For instance, you could paint the dining room a bright yellow while painting the living room or bedroom a subtle green. This works well in defining and separating the different spaces from one another.
This does take some practice to really pull off, so make sure you plan it out. Also be sure that your furniture goes well with the newly picked out colors. And remember, it's just paint, you can always change it back if it doesn't work.
I love a beautifully painted white room, but too much white can be a bad thing. If this is the case, then you want to create a focal point by adding a dark accent wall to balance it out.
Study the flow of the room and pick the wall that will give you the most bang for your buck. This can be the wall opposite of the entry way or a wall behind the TV. Wherever the focus of the room is most often drawn.
Also, just like before, try to pick a color that won't clash with the room and don't be afraid to try a couple of different colors until you get it right.
If you want to give the perception of a larger space, then you should paint the baseboards the same color as your wall. This is especially helpful if you have low ceilings. This will add a nice seamless flow to the wall and give your room a more natural feel.
Also, if you're bold enough you can play around with painting the ceiling. This can range from the same color as the wall to open it up or bold color to add some funk and character. I've even seen some good pastoral clouds and starry nights - Although, that isn't for first timers.
As you can see, color and flow are super important when it comes to open floor plans and it's important to break out of that monotone vibe that they so often get caught in. Experiment and have fun. None of these changes have to be permanent.
